My Dear Friend,
During a recent crusade in Hawaii, as we entered into a beautiful time of worship, the presence of the beautiful Holy Spirit settled upon us in such a precious way. As voices were lifted to our wonderful Master Jesus, heaven seemed to draw near. Hearts were healed, burdens were lifted, tears flowed freely, and once again I was reminded that there is nothing in this world that compares to the manifest presence of God.
Today, I want to gently encourage you to take your eyes off every distraction, every burden, every uncertainty, and place them upon the Lord Jesus Christ. Worship has a way of lifting us above the circumstances of earth and reminding us that our lives are hidden with Christ in God. When we focus on Him, everything else begins to find its proper place.
For the past several weeks we have been studying the remarkable life of Isaac. We have watched him obey God during famine, sow when others were retreating, reopen forgotten wells, persevere through opposition, and inherit promises established long before he was born.
Today we come to one of the greatest lessons of Isaac’s life.
When famine struck the land, God spoke to Isaac and said,
“Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee.” (Genesis 26:2–3)
Notice that God did not first promise to change Isaac’s circumstances.
He promised His presence.
The blessing began with God Himself.
Then we read these remarkable words:
“Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great.” (Genesis 26:12–13)
Isaac was not blessed because he happened to live in the right place.
He was not blessed because the weather changed.
He was not blessed because the government became favorable.
He was not blessed because the economy suddenly improved.
He carried the blessing of God wherever he went because he carried the covenant of God upon his life.
Later, after seasons of perseverance and opposition, the Lord appeared to Isaac again and declared,
“Fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee.” (Genesis 26:24)
Again, God’s greatest promise was not prosperity.
It was His presence.
Wherever Isaac lived, the blessing followed.
Wherever Isaac sowed, the blessing followed.
Wherever Isaac walked, the favor of God followed.
Even those around him recognized it. King Abimelech finally confessed,
“We saw certainly that the Lord was with thee… Thou art now the blessed of the Lord.” (Genesis 26:28–29)
Beloved, people recognized the blessing because they first recognized the presence of God upon Isaac’s life.
The same is true for us.
We are not looking for blessing.
We are not chasing favorable circumstances.
We are not searching for the perfect location.
We carry Christ.
The Apostle Paul reminds us,
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)
Notice those wonderful words:
In Christ.
Our blessing is not determined by geography.
It is not determined by governments.
It is not determined by markets or economies.
Our blessing is found in the precious Lord Jesus Himself.
Where Christ is…
Hope is.
Peace is.
Provision is.
Healing is.
Joy is.
His presence is the greatest blessing we will ever know.
That is why worship is so powerful.
David declared,
“In thy presence is fulness of joy.” (Psalm 16:11)
Worship turns our attention away from what we lack and fixes our hearts upon the One who is more than enough.
When His presence fills our lives, fear loses its voice.
Anxiety gives way to peace.
Faith begins to rise again.
Today, I encourage you to spend a few quiet moments worshiping Him. Lift your hands. Open your Bible. Thank Him for His goodness. Invite the beautiful Holy Spirit to refresh your heart. As you draw near to Him, I believe His presence will strengthen you, encourage you, and remind you that wherever you go, He goes with you.
You carry His presence.
You carry His peace.
You carry His promises.
And because you carry Christ, you carry His blessing.
As I prepare for what will be some of the largest crusades in the history of our ministry, I continue to stand in awe of the doors our precious Lord Jesus is opening before us. Opportunities have come that are beyond anything I could have imagined. Yet because I know the faithfulness of God, I cannot say they surprise me. In the coming days I look forward to sharing more with you about these extraordinary opportunities to reach the nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
