My beloved friend,
Throughout these past days, we have been studying the amazing account found in Acts 27, and I pray this remarkable story is becoming as personal to you as it has become to me. We have watched Paul stand in the middle of an impossible storm with nothing but a word from God—and believe that word when everything around him said the opposite.
Today, on this Worship Wednesday, I want you to see something else that is incredibly powerful:
They reached God’s destination, but they did not arrive with everything they started with.
The cargo went overboard.
The ship’s equipment went overboard.
The lifeboat was released.
Eventually, even the ship itself was lost.
But the promise survived!
Oh, beloved, don’t miss this.
Sometimes we think faith means asking God to preserve everything we presently have while He takes us into everything He has promised. But there are moments when the assignment God has placed upon your life requires you to release something before you can receive what is ahead.
Perhaps you are praying, “Lord, please don’t let me lose this.”
And perhaps the Holy Spirit is saying, “Trust Me. You don’t need that for where I am taking you.”
That can be frightening because we become attached to the familiar. We become comfortable with the people, places, plans, resources, and methods God has used in one season.
But hear this in your spirit today:
God never promised Paul the ship. He promised Paul the destination.
We can become attached to the method while God remains committed to the mission.
The ship can change.
The people can change.
The circumstances can change.
The route can change.
But what God has spoken has not changed.
Maybe something in your life appears to be breaking apart right now. Perhaps a door has closed. A plan has failed. Something you thought was necessary for your future has suddenly disappeared.
Don’t automatically interpret the loss of something familiar as the loss of God’s favor.
It may be that God is saying, “Cut the rope. Release it. Trust Me with what comes next.”
Acts 27:44 tells us that some reached shore “on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.”
They didn’t arrive the way they expected.
Some arrived holding broken pieces!
But they arrived.
And perhaps that is God’s word for you today. Your journey may not look like you imagined. The pathway may be completely different from the one you planned. But if God has spoken, keep believing, keep worshiping, keep praying, and keep moving forward.
Your assignment may require you to cut a rope—but never cut loose from the promise of God.
And prayer is one of the most powerful ways we hold onto that promise.
