Miracle Monday: Don't Quit Digging—Living Water Is Just Ahead

My Dear Friend,

Have you ever felt as though you’ve prayed, believed, obeyed, and yet the well still seems dry? You’ve worshiped faithfully, trusted God through difficult seasons, and wondered if the breakthrough would ever come. Over the past several weeks we’ve been studying the remarkable life of Isaac, and today’s lesson may be one of the most important of all. Every well Isaac reopened represented perseverance. Every shovel full of dirt was an act of faith. And every dry place eventually gave way to living water. Beloved, I believe this word is especially for you today.

After Isaac’s servants reopened the wells his father Abraham had dug, they continued searching for water. There were disappointments. There was opposition. There were wells that brought conflict instead of blessing. But Isaac refused to stop digging.

Then Scripture tells us,

“And they digged another well… and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said, For now the Lord hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.” (Genesis 26:22)

What a beautiful picture of the Christian life.

Isaac’s miracle was not found by quitting.

It was found by continuing.

Every well represented hope.

Every day of digging declared that God would be faithful.

Every setback became another opportunity to trust the Lord.

I cannot help but think of the words of our precious Lord Jesus:

“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.” (John 4:14)

And again,

“He that believeth on me… out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)

John tells us this was speaking of the beautiful Holy Spirit.

How desperately our generation needs the refreshing of the Holy Spirit once again.

We need more than religion.

We need more than routine.

We need living water.

We need revival.

We need hearts refreshed by the presence of God.

Sometimes we become discouraged because we don’t immediately see the water.

We pray.

We worship.

We sow.

We wait.

Yet the ground still appears dry.

Beloved, the absence of visible water does not mean the river isn’t there.

Sometimes God is developing perseverance before He reveals the breakthrough.

James reminds us,

“Let patience have her perfect work…” (James 1:4)

Some of the greatest wells God has ever opened were discovered by people who simply refused to stop digging.

Perhaps you’ve been praying for a loved one.

Keep digging.

Perhaps you’ve been believing God for healing.

Keep digging.

Perhaps you’ve been standing for your family, your finances, your ministry, or your future.

Keep digging.

Do not allow disappointment to convince you that God has abandoned His promise.

Every prayer is another shovel of faith.

Every act of obedience is another step toward living water.

Every moment spent in the presence of the beautiful Holy Spirit is preparing your heart for fresh refreshing.

I believe with all my heart that God is calling His people back to the wells of His presence. He longs to pour out living water upon thirsty hearts, revive weary believers, strengthen those who have grown discouraged, and awaken a fresh hunger for His presence.

Don’t quit now.

The next breakthrough may be one more prayer away.

One more act of obedience away.

One more day of trusting away.

Keep digging until living water flows.
