My beloved friend,
Have you ever found yourself in a place where you simply could not see a way out? Perhaps you have prayed, believed, and done everything you know to do, yet the storm has continued. Maybe something you once counted on suddenly feels uncertain, and in the quiet of your heart you have wondered, Lord, how are You going to bring me through this?
If you have ever felt that way—or if you are there right now—I want you to know that God sees exactly where you are, and He has not forgotten you.
This Miracle Monday, I believe the Holy Spirit has placed a very special word in my heart for you:
Your security is not in what you can hold onto; your security is in the God who is holding onto you.
That is what makes Acts 27 so deeply personal to me.
Paul is being taken as a prisoner to Rome when the ship carrying him and more than 270 others is overtaken by a violent storm. For days they are driven helplessly across the sea. The sailors cannot navigate by the sun or stars. The wind is relentless. The ship is taking such a beating that they begin throwing cargo and equipment overboard simply to stay afloat.
Luke describes their condition with heartbreaking words:
“All hope that we should be saved was then taken away” (Acts 27:20).
Perhaps you know that feeling—the moment when every visible answer seems to disappear and you are left wondering what remains.
Beloved, that is often the very place where God teaches us that when everything else is gone, He remains—and He is enough.
But in the darkness, God speaks.
An angel of the Lord appears to Paul and tells him not to be afraid. Paul will stand before Caesar, and God has graciously promised to preserve the lives of everyone sailing with him.
Paul stands before those terrified men and declares:
“Be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me” (Acts 27:25).
The storm has not stopped.
The waves have not calmed.
Nothing outwardly has changed.
The only thing they have between themselves and disaster is a word from God.
Then, after fourteen terrifying nights at sea, the sailors sense that they are approaching land. They begin taking soundings and discover the water is becoming shallower. Fearing they will be smashed against the rocks in the darkness, they throw four anchors from the stern and desperately wait for daylight.
You can almost feel the tension on that ship.
Somewhere ahead is land, but they cannot see it. Behind them is a raging sea. Beneath them are rocks. And the ship itself may not survive much longer.
It is at this desperate moment that some of the sailors secretly begin lowering the lifeboat.
They pretend they are going to put out additional anchors from the bow, but Paul realizes what they are actually doing.
They are preparing to abandon the ship.
And who could blame them from a human point of view?
That lifeboat represented security. It was tangible. They could see it. They could touch it. They knew how to use it. In a situation where everything else had become uncertain, that little boat appeared to be the one remaining thing they could control.
Human wisdom would have screamed:
“Protect that boat! Hold on to it! Whatever happens, don’t lose your last means of escape!”
But Paul had heard from God.
He warned the centurion:
“Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved” (Acts 27:31).
And then came the moment that grips my heart.
The soldiers cut the ropes.
Can you imagine standing on that storm-tossed deck and watching the lifeboat fall into the raging water?
They didn’t secure it somewhere else.
They didn’t keep one rope attached just in case.
They cut the ropes and let it go.
Their hands released the very thing their minds must have been telling them to hold onto.
And they watched what appeared to be their greatest security drift away into the darkness.
Why?
Because God had spoken.
Beloved, this is where faith becomes real.
Sometimes the greatest act of faith is not reaching for something—it is releasing something.
Sometimes God asks us to surrender the very thing that feels safest because He is teaching us that our security was never in the lifeboat.
And, my precious partner, perhaps this word is especially for you today. I don’t know what you may be facing as you read these words. I don’t know what you have been holding onto because you are afraid of what will happen if you let it go.
But I do know this:
The same God who stood with Paul in that storm is standing with you right now.
He sees you. He knows what concerns you. He knows the questions you have carried quietly in your heart.
Perhaps you have your own lifeboat today.
It may be a relationship you are afraid to lose. A position you believe you cannot live without. Money you are afraid to release. A door you are desperately trying to keep open. A plan you have constructed because you cannot imagine another way forward.
And everything within you says, Hold on! This is all you have left!
But sometimes God says:
“Cut the rope.”
It may be the least obvious thing to do.
It may feel frightening.
It may even look foolish to everyone around you.
But faith says, “If God has something better, I refuse to cling to something merely because it feels safe.”
There are times when we cannot receive what God has prepared because both of our hands are still wrapped around what He has asked us to release.
And notice something powerful:
They released the lifeboat before they saw the shore.
They let go of what they could see because they believed the word God had spoken about what they could not yet see.
Oh, beloved, that is faith!
You may not see the shore yet.
You may not understand how God will provide.
You may not know where the next opportunity will come from or how the answer will arrive.
But you don’t need to see the shore when you have heard from God.
The safest place in the storm was not the lifeboat.
The safest place was inside the promise of God.
So if the Holy Spirit is asking you to release something today, don’t be afraid. What feels like losing your security may actually be God freeing you to discover a security that cannot be shaken.
Cut the ropes.
Let go of what only looks safe.
Trust the One who has never failed you.
Because when God asks you to release something, He is not asking you to surrender your future.
He is asking you to place your future completely in His hands.
And His hands are safer than any lifeboat.
And today, my beloved partner, I want to ask you to stand with me as we continue taking this precious Gospel to hurting people around the world.
