Today’s Key Scripture
“When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.”
— Matthew 26:30
Worship prepares us not only for all that lies ahead but also for ultimate victory.
When the Lord Jesus and the disciples shared the Last Supper together, and as they prepared to leave, the Bible tells us that they sang a hymn. What happened next changed history, for beyond the Mount of Olives and on the cross of Calvary, Christ won history’s greatest victory in the midst of what appeared for a time to be His most overwhelming defeat.
Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, told the church to teach and admonish each other with these powerful words: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16).
This is why we emphasize praise and worship music during our telecasts and services. There is something about this music that lifts us up, sets us on a firm foundation, and prepares us for victory—no matter where we are in life.
“God is Spirit,” we are told in John 4:24, “and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
May you, like David, say to the Lord daily, “I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High” (Psalm 9:2).
Enter into worship, both regularly and spontaneously, and see how much more effective your life can be.
A Prayer for Today
Father God, I tell You that I trust You for all my tomorrows, yet sometimes I fail to even give you my daily worship. You alone are totally reliable, and I give You control over all of me, including the words of praise and worship. I desire power to endure, and I know inwardly that a solid faith-filled life depends upon my willing spirit to spend time in Your presence. Fill me with an inner desire to know You more intimately today than ever before. I will give You all the praise and glory for all that happens today. And I will praise and worship You with music throughout the day and night. It’s in Jesus’ name that I pray, amen.
