Today’s Key Scripture
“Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
— Ephesians 5:18-19
What do you do when you want to spend time with the Lord, yet you feel empty, low, and not really ready to pray? One thing I do many times is listen to worship music.
The Bible has much to say about music. Doing a word search and studying all the verses and passages about worshipping the Lord through song will lift your spirit. Just this morning I turned to this favorite verse: “Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation” (Psalm 95:1).
When I put on my earphones and start a playlist or CD of worship music, within minutes I find myself enraptured by the glorious presence of the Holy Spirit. All the outer influences and my inner hindrances leave. It lifts me to new heights, and everything begins to change within me.
Even after the music ends, the songs and melodies keep flowing out of my heart. This has happened to me more times than I can count, so I can tell you from personal experience that it is so important that the music you play has been written and produced for anointed worship.
So much music today is designed to stir our emotions, tell a story, or deliver a message. There is nothing wrong with any of those, and there is a time and place for those tunes, but music of this nature probably will not help create the atmosphere you need.
Worship songs can literally usher you into the very presence of the Lord!
A Prayer for Today
Dear Lord, I thank You for loving me, even when I was unlovable. Thank You for pardoning me, even when I was so underserving of Your grace. And thank You for bringing me into worship, even when my mind would stray. I love worship music that ushers me into Your presence. Help me to spend more and more time with You. Help me to worship You in spirit and truth, for You alone are worthy, and in You, I find purpose, meaning, and guidance. I pray this in the name above all names, Jesus, amen.
