Today’s Key Scripture

“Whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.”

— 1 John 3:22

Any instrument must be tuned before it is played. A violinist, for example, tunes the A string to the international pitch, or A-440. That means the A above middle C is vibrating 440 times per second.

Once the A is tuned, all the other strings can be adjusted to play harmoniously together. Otherwise, the result would be a cacophony of chaos.

Violinists must tune their strings often, knowing that an accidental bump or simply frequent play can result in enough variation to cause discord.

Likewise, it is easy to get out of tune as humans. Christ is the standard. If we are not in a right relationship with Him, we cannot get along with others. We either vibrate in harmony with Him, or we slide into dissonance.

How do we stay in tune with Him?

Obedience! Surrendering daily. We must continually allow Him to tune us to His perfect pitch. Stay tuned to the Lord. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, “the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2, NIV).

A Prayer for Today

Father God, thank You for loving me enough to tune me as needed and to correct me even when I tend to resist. My heart is eternally grateful for Your intimate concern. Please guide me on Your path of righteousness according to Your will and Your glory. And help me to live holy, even as You are holy so I can reach out to others who need You so desperately, even though they may not comprehend their need for You. Help me to become more like You, cherishing Your tuning so I can bring harmony, light, and hope to a world too often filled with chaos, darkness, and hopelessness. I pray this in the name above all names, Jesus, amen.
