Today’s Key Scripture
“When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.”
— Acts 4:31
Divine power is promised to us as believers, for the Word of God declares, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
The anointing of the Holy Spirit has different levels or dimensions, each with a specific purpose:
- The abiding anointing (John 14:17). The Holy Spirit was “with” the disciples as promised when Jesus breathed upon them. As we are filled with the Holy Spirit, He dwells “in you.”
- The anointing for service (Acts 1:8). The promise Jesus gave to His disciples had a specific purpose, and the Holy Spirit came upon them to empower them as witnesses to the world.
- The anointing for dominion and authority (Acts 4:31). This dimension of the anointing releases the gift of faith and brings us into a realm of the Holy Spirit’s anointing that is awesome and powerful.
Each dimension of the anointing is dependent upon the next. As you spend time in prayer and reading God’s Word, your walk with God is strengthened and the presence of the Holy Spirit intensifies.
The secret to the anointing is found in surrender, and it is only possible through prayer and brokenness before our wonderful Lord Jesus.
A Prayer for Today
Father, I surrender to You today. I willingly submit to Your will. I ask You to help me stand on Your promises today and every day of my life. I desire close communion with You. Help me to understand You and Your promises better, even as I seek to see through Your eyes. Help me to hear Your voice. Empower me with Your Holy Spirit. Give me Your wisdom, for I ask it from You today and always. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, righteousness, compassion, goodness, and glory. May I always seek to reflect You through my life. Guide my steps today as I trust my life to You, Lord. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
