Today’s Key Scripture

“When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.”

— Acts 4:31

It was persevering prayer that brought about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the 120 on the Day of Pentecost.

And it was persevering prayer that transformed these believers into mighty witnesses of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus:

The whole congregation of believers was united as one—one heart, one mind! They didn’t even claim ownership of their own possessions. No one said, “That’s mine; you can’t have it.” They shared everything. The apostles gave powerful witness to the resurrection of the Master Jesus, and grace was on all of them. (Acts 4:32-33, msg)

And it is as we pray that He promises to fill and empower us with His precious Holy Spirit: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:23-24, kjv).

It is through persevering prayer that you will be a mighty witness of the resurrection of Jesus Christ to those around you.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, I pray for Your mercy and grace, not just upon my loved ones and me, but for all those who are lost, hurting, hopeless, and needy all around the world. I ask that precious souls who are without You as Savior and Lord will hear Your voice. May they turn to You as You seek to save those who need You most. Help me to persevere in prayer as I walk on Your path with certainty and purity. Grant that I will be a living witness for You. And may I rest upon Your promises, day by day, to be unafraid to move boldly in Your light, even as I proclaim salvation through You. I pray all this in the name of Jesus, amen.
