Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted):
Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.
A woman once came to Dr. Cho at his church in Seoul, Korea. She asked, “Will you pray with me that I will find a husband? I have been praying for a long time that God will answer my request, and yet there is no husband for me.”
“Well,” responded Dr. Cho, “the reason God has not answered your prayer is because you have not asked specifically.”
“What do you mean?” she replied.
Pastor Cho asked her, “What kind of husband do you really want? Tall? Short? Quiet? Outgoing?”
As the woman described the man of her dreams, the pastor said, “That is wonderful. Now let us pray.”
Not long after, the Lord gave the women the yearning of her heart.
The remarkable Bible teacher E. M. Bounds said, “God encourages us to prayer, not only by the certainty of the answer, but also by the generosity of the promise, and the bounty of the Giver.” Likewise, Charles G. Finney wrote, “Effective prayer is prayer that attains what it seeks. It is prayer that moves God, effecting its end.”
We have this promise: “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).
Be specific as you ask!
A Prayer for Today:
Mighty Father, I offer my thankfulness for the privilege of going deeper and deeper with You. I believe You are helping me move from the outer court into the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies because You want to use me more. Keep me mindful of the ways I can glorify You, even in the way I ask of You in both small and large things. Amen!
