Ask, and it will be given to you.

—Matthew 7:7

Continuing the comparison of the Tabernacle to daily communication with God, asking begins in the outer court. This is where we make our requests known: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6).

This is where we come to the Lord and make our desires and needs known to Him.

This is also where we are cleansed by the blood as we confess our sins. This is where we find Him faithful and just to forgive us, as promised: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

It is in the outer court that we find the altar of sacrifice, where the work of the cross and the blood of Jesus avails.

And remember, the outer court is also where we find the laver, the Word of God, and it is in this world that we remind the Lord of His promises.

It is in this world that we must prevail in prayer as we wait upon the Lord. And as we overcome in this realm of communication with God, we are granted the privilege of entering into the next—the Holy Place.

A Prayer for Today:

Father God, nothing is hidden from You. You already know all my thoughts. You know everything about me. You know my innermost desires. Yet, knowing all this, You want to spend intimate time with me. I can hardly fathom the fact that You wanted me, even when I was lost and seemingly far from You. I’m so thankful, and as I spend more and more time with You moving from the outer court to the Holy Place and the Holiest of Holies, I give You thanks again and again for Your mercy and love. I trust You to direct my paths. I pray this in Your name, Amen!
