Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted):

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split                             —Matthew 27:50-51

We are told:

And now we are brothers and sisters in God’s family because of the blood of Jesus, and he welcomes us to come into the most holy sanctuary in the heavenly realm—boldly and without hesitation. For he has dedicated a new, life-giving way for us to approach God. For just as the veil was torn in two, Jesus’ body was torn open to give us free and fresh access to him! (Hebrews 10:19-20, TPT)

Charles H. Spurgeon, in his powerful sermon, “The Rent Veil,” proclaimed: “My brother, no veil remains. Why dost thou stand afar off, and tremble like a slave? Draw near with full assurance of faith. The veil is rent: access is free. Come boldly to the throne of grace. Jesus has made thee nigh, as nigh to God as even He Himself is.”

Behind the veil was torn, top to bottom, your life is changed forever. You begin to understand, in a small way, what David the psalmist was acknowledging when he wrote, “You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence” (Psalm 31:20).

The torn veil means access to the Holy of holies. It brings total protection. Sickness is not allowed there. Enemies of God cannot enter. And when it is time to leave, you cannot wait to return, for you’ve just begun to practice the presence of God. You’ve experienced a taste of what it’s like to be in heaven’s throne room.

But few humans enter there, even with the torn veil. Why? The price is simply more than most people are willing to pay.

A Prayer for Today:

Father God, I’m so grateful that You’re the veil between the Holy Place and the Holy of holies, from top to bottom, to give me access to You. I pray that every time I enter Your presence, I will seek You even more than before. Move boldly in my life. Keep me from sin that grieves You and diminishes the voice of Your Holy Spirit. Help me to crave Your presence more than I ever craved sin, past or present. Help me walk closer with Yourself and yield spiritual fruit. I pray for Your guidance. Let Your will and promises always be in my heart as I meditate on You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
