Today’s Key Scripture

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

— Psalm 23:5-6

In the Psalms, David understood the power of the anointing of the Holy Spirit. So did the apostle Peter, who experienced God’s fullness in his life as the anointing brought about a supernatural manifestation of God’s power through him. In fact, so much so that Peter’s own shadow raised the dead.

Throughout history, men and women of great faith in God have experienced the fullness of the Holy Spirit’s power. Charles Finney was most certainly one of them. Books record how he often preached in a packed building where thousands more waited outside, sometimes more were outside than were able to get inside, with people healed both inside and outside the building.

Just the very fact that they were in the same area where Finney ministered enabled multitudes to receive God’s saving and healing touch. Men and women simply passing by the building where Finney ministered, who knew nothing about the meeting and had no interest in God, would come under conviction, crumble, and confess their sins.

That is what the power of the anointing of God will do in a person who is committed to spending time in His lovely presence, increasingly yielded to Him.

You are that person!

A Prayer for Today

Dear Lord, help me remember what a difference it makes when I spend precious time with You. Today, I declare this time with You a daily priority. Awaken me each day with a desire to meet with You. Throughout the day help me hear You speak words of faith, hope, love, and wisdom over me. And may I go to sleep every night in Your restful, comforting arms, knowing that I am one day closer to spending an eternity in heaven with You. In Jesus’ precious name I pray, amen.
