Today’s Key Scripture

“Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, ‘Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’”

— Exodus 32:1

It’s so easy to give up on God and His timetable, but the effects of doing it yourself can be disastrous.

After the Ten Commandments were delivered and the Tabernacle was built, the people became restless when Moses was on Mount Sinai talking with God.

These are the same individuals who were fed with manna from heaven and had seen God divide the sea. They witnessed the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night, and now they were complaining.

God saw Moses on the mountain and declared, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves” (Exodus 32:7).

It is obvious that God was angry and ready to destroy the children of Israel, but Moses knew how to pray, using God’s promises (verses 11-12). Moses, in effect, said, “Remember what you promised Abraham? You can’t break that promise!”

Would God listen to such a prayer? Yes! He changed His mind. “So the Lord relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people” (verse 14).

Stand on God’s promises. They are the foundation of fellowship with the Father and the key to answered prayer!

A Prayer for Today

Father, help me to stand on Your promises every day of my life. I desire close communion with You. Help me to understand You and Your promises better, as I seek to see through Your eyes. Help me to hear Your voice. Give me Your wisdom, for I ask it from You today and always. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, righteousness, compassion, goodness, and glory. May I always seek to reflect You through my life. Guide my steps today as I trust my life to You, Lord. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
