Today’s Key Scripture
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
— Luke 4:18-19
As the anointing increases in our life, something wonderful happens; it begins to be smeared on us. The Old Testament word for “anoint” in the Hebrew is the word mishact, which means “to smear.” The Greek word chrisma means “rubbing in.” What a glorious picture this paints for us. God wants to “smear” His anointing on us and rub it in as we spend time in His presence and share Him with others.
The anointing, faith, and power are all found in Him, for the Lord Himself is the anointing, faith, and power. The presence of God always brings the person of God, the glory of God, and all of His attributes.
God’s presence comes not just on us, but also in us. It is a tangible anointing. It is important to realize that faith is not something that is in us. Faith is in the person of the Holy Spirit. Once He comes upon us, so does faith in God.
Faith is a manifestation of God’s presence and a fruit of the Spirit. The faith of God is found in the presence of God. Fellowship with God is the key that will release this anointing upon on you.
The anointing that comes through prayer is to help you reach and serve others.
A Prayer for Today
Good morning, Holy Spirit! As I rise to meet this new day, please fill me anew and afresh with Your Spirit. Wherever I go, help me spread Your love, joy, peace, goodness, and faithfulness. Give me a greater desire to become more like You. Help me worship You, not just by sitting down or on my knees, but in everything I do today. Thank You for the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I ask Your help in blessing others in return. I lift up Jesus’ holy name as I pray, amen.
