Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted)
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
— Romans 8:26
Often I meet people who tell me, “I’m an intercessor.” Yet when I talk with them it becomes clear they simply see their role in ministry as praying for others, which is certainly a wonderful calling.
However, true intercession has a far deeper meaning and is the result of a relationship with the Lord that is profoundly immeasurable.
Intimacy with the Lord prepares the heart for intercession and victory. It is in intimacy with the Lord that the Holy Spirit takes over our hearts and intercession is born. First and foremost, it is He that intercedes for us. We become vessels for the Intercessor, and then He can teach us to intercede for others.
To walk with the Holy Spirit this closely, you must be willing to pay the price. You must be willing to walk away from things of the world that would separate you from the Lord and intense, insightful communion with Him.
The Lord will not reveal Himself to people who are always in a hurry. Nor will He reveal Himself to an individual who places a time limit on Him.
A great price was paid that you might have fellowship with Him. Intimacy with you and intercession through you is what He desires!
A Prayer for Today:
Lord, You alone are worthy of my praise. I ask You to anoint me today as I rest in Your presence. I seek intimacy with You, which requires time spent with You. Help me not to rush through my time with You, but guide me into a deeper relationship with You so that I may be an effective intercessor—both receiving from You and praying for others. I desire to be a conduit that You can use, a vessel of honor in service for You. But first I seek You in all Your fullness. I lift this prayer to You today, precious Lord. Amen!
