Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted:

God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.

— Job 21:19, KJV

Job 21 tells about the frightening picture for the prayerless and the ungodly. Verse 19 points out that the prayerless will see pain and suffering as a reward. Prayerlessness is a dangerous and destructive practice. Neglect of God is the cause for much pain and suffering in our world.

In verse 20 we read, “His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.” The misery of the prayerlessness is clearly described. How much better to say, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help” (Psalm 121:1, KJV).

Verse 21 gives us a frightening picture of the end of life for the prayerless: “For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?”

How much better to acknowledge God and know the promise of Psalm 91:16—“With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.”

Only those who seek the Lord are guaranteed this promise: “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him” (Psalm 91:15, KJV).

The promise of long life is the result of prayer!

A Prayer for Today:

Good Morning, Holy Spirit! I give You thanks for waking me up in anticipation of spending time with You. What a wonderful way to start this day! I am so blessed to be with You every day, knowing that the more time I spend in Your presence, the more I will be spiritually transformed into Your image. Today, I choose to be filled with thanksgiving, knowing that whatever happened before is in the past. I thank You for a clean slate this morning, and I ask You to help me fill this day with Your will being done in my life. In Your holy, blessed Name I pray, with gratefulness. Amen!
