Today’s Key Scripture

“If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

— Romans 8:11

So many times in my life, people have told me, “Every time I kneel to pray, my mind is pulled in a dozen directions. I think about my shopping list, the big game, a television program, my family, and the events going on in my life.”

Perhaps you have experienced fatigue, drowsiness, and wandering thoughts. Your knees or your back start to ache and your body is in pain. You wonder, “How long can I pray today?”

When your body is weary and your mind cannot stay focused, I believe you are facing one of the infirmities referred to by Paul. You need “staying power,” yet you will not find it on your own.

In our human frailty we see agony and travail, not the rewards of the coming harvest. Thank God for the Holy Spirit, for:

  • He takes our weaknesses and allows us to overcome.
  • He takes our memory and allows us to use the Word in our praying.
  • He takes our bodies and quickens them.

The Spirit will give life to your body. When you pray, say, “Holy Spirit, Your Word says that if You dwell in me, You will quicken me. Come and energize me so I can be victorious as I pray.”

A Prayer for Today

Almighty Father, I want to dwell in Your secret place. I want to live in Your presence. I want to understand You more. I want to be able to pray in times of adversity, in times of prosperity, in times of danger, and in times of security. I want to be nourished of You in every way, every day. I long for Your touch in my life, and I seek to be covered by Your wings. I love You, and I pray all this in the name above all names, amen.

Quickened in Prayer, Part 2 (of 2)

Today’s Key Scripture

“Teach me what I do not see.”

— Job 34:32

As the Holy Spirit awakens our body, we are able to say no to the flesh, especially during prayer.

How do we conquer the deeds of our body? By the Holy Spirit: “If you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8:13).

The Lord will allow us to experience what our eyes cannot behold (Hebrews 11:27). All of this happens, including being taught by the Father, when we allow the Holy Ghost to dwell within us. And although this is promised, it is still the result of prayer. Remember, the Holy Spirit has come to quicken us in spirit, mind, and body:

  • Our spirit is quickened so that we can talk to the Father and He can talk with us.
  • Our mind is quickened so that we can remember the Word of God.
  • Our body is quickened so that we will not grow weary.

Remember, prayer is more than begging or pleading. It is intimate communion and fellowship with your heavenly Father. Come into His presence with a receptive heart and a listening ear.

Today, you can hear from heaven!

A Prayer for Today

Father in heaven, I desire to hear from You. I pray that You would use me as Your vessel for understanding and purpose. I speak usefulness, fulfillment, and victory over every area of my life. I choose You today—Your plan, Your holiness, and Your guidance. Reveal the areas in my life that are not surrendered to You, and help me to triumph, even as I seek balance in You. I humbly pray all these things in Jesus’ precious name, amen.
