Today’s Key Scripture

“Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

— Isaiah 40:31

Preparation for the Holy Spirit’s anointing can include many things, including waiting on God.

The late renowned Bible teacher Andrew Murray said:

If any are inclined to despond, because they do not have such patience, let them be of good courage. It is in the course of our feeble and very imperfect waiting that God Himself, by His hidden power, strengthens us and works out in us the patience of the great saints, the patience of Christ Himself.

God can do mighty things through believers who understand the importance of waiting in His presence, especially since we often insist that God meets us on our own terms. We must learn to come into the presence of God, then wait.

You may ask, “What if I don’t feel anything. What if nothing happens?”

Then you wait! You prepare for His anointing by abiding in His presence.

Don’t worry. God is already there, waiting for your heart and mind to become attuned to His. Our number one problem is emptying our thoughts from the clutter of the day and calming our hectic pace of life until we can hear His voice.

Get on your knees and just wait quietly before Him. Moses, Ezekiel, and the prophets came into God’s presence with stillness, calmness, and serenity. You can, too.

A Prayer for Today

Father, thank You for not leaving me to my own schemes, devices, and plans. Without You my heart can be untrustworthy, and my mind can be susceptible to wrong influences. On my own, my willpower can be powerless against forces that would lead me down the wrong paths. Thank You for Your Word which reveals Your matchless nature and Your perfect will. Thank You also that Your Word exposes my desperate need for Your Holy Spirit’s guidance in every area of my life. I ask You to strengthen my inner self as You teach me Your ways, overpower my evil tendencies, and bring me to ultimate victory when I spend eternity in heaven with You. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
