Today’s Key Scripture

“The Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘To your descendants, I will give this land.’”

— Genesis 12:7

For Abraham to leave his homeland, heading for “a land that I will show you” (Genesis 12:1) is one thing, but while Abraham spent time in fellowship with God, an especially intriguing promise was added: “To your descendants.”

When that promise was given, Abraham and his wife were childless. One especially fascinating fact is that even though Abraham didn’t see the fulfillment of an heir of promise—Isaac—for a quarter of a century after the promise was given, there is no record that he doubted even once that God would not be true to the word he had received while in prayer and fellowship.

When God eventually fulfilled His promise, Isaac was born when Sarah was 90 years old and Abraham was 100!

How many times have you prayed and asked God for something, even feeling in your heart that God was saying yes, and yet because it did not happen quickly you began to doubt God?

God doesn’t work according to human timetables, nor does He ever forget.

Determine in your heart to be patient like Abraham, waiting for the fulfillment of God’s promises in your life. The glory of God and His marvelous presence will continue to expand within you as you remain faithful and in fellowship with Him.

A Prayer for Today

Thank You, dear heavenly Father, for caring about the desires of my heart. I’m so gratefully that You are working on my behalf, even when I don’t see what is taking place spiritually. As I spend intimate time with You, I ask that You will grow my passion for spending even more time with You. Help me cherish these times with You, no matter what is going on in my life. Help me stay where You want me to be and to depend upon Your promises. I want to be more like You. Thank You for promising that if I draw near to You, You will draw near to me. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
