Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted:

Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles:

—Luke 6:12-13

Not only did prayer protect Jesus, but it enabled Him to know the will of God in choosing His twelve apostles.

Jesus made no decisions without prayer, and how tragic it is that some of God’s precious people will make decisions that involve marriage, business, or family, yet they do not seek the Lord in making such critical choices. Then, when they are in trouble, they cry out to God for help.

Our Lord shows His will in numerous ways:

  • His Word (Daniel 9:1-3; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • His audible voice (Numbers 12:6-8)
  • His still, small voice (Psalm 46:10)
  • Dreams and visions (Joel 2:28)
  • His peace (Colossians 3:15)

And certainly God reveals His will for your life as you pray and spend intimate time with Him.

Keep in mind that learning to hear God’s voice this is a process. A relationship like this is exercised or strengthened through daily prayer and reading His Word. As you become acquainted with Him, then you are better able to discern what He is telling you.

Let us learn from the Lord. Before making any decisions that will affect your life and future, make sure you get on your knees and seek the Lord’s guidance and perfect will.

A Prayer for Today:

Precious Father, I’m so thankful that You know me better than I know myself. You are aware of all my failures, doubts, anxieties, and weaknesses, yet You care enough to want me to spend time with You everyday. Thank You for loving me. I know you have a plan for me. Help me so my desires don’t blind me to Your will. Help me follow Your guidance. Give me peace, no matter what comes my way. Thank You for Your precious compassion for me. Amen!
