Today’s Key Scripture

“God said, ‘Ask! What shall I give you?’ And Solomon said:… ‘Give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?’”

— 1 Kings 3:5-6, 9

Many attempt to comprehend the Bible without having true fellowship with the Father. Their minds may be filled with knowledge, yet they cannot understand what they have read. When there is relationship, however, there will be revelation. This is clearly illustrated in a statement made by the great evangelist, D. L. Moody, who said, “A Christian on his knees will see more than a philosopher on his tip toes.”

Spending time in God’s presence has so many benefits, including these:

  • It allows us to seek God, and the Word reveals God.
  • It enables us to ask questions of God. The Word provides the answers.
  • It lifts us to heaven. The Word brings God to earth.

The psalmist prayed:

Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients because I keep Your precepts. (Psalm 119:97-100)

Prayer has the power to open your understanding. May God bless you with an outpouring of His knowledge and wisdom as you spend time in His presence.

A Prayer for Today

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, that I may see You in all of Your fullness and glory. Thank You, dear heavenly Father, for caring about my most intimate thoughts and the desires of my heart. Grow my passion for spending time with You. Help me cherish every moment with You, no matter what is going on in my life. I want to be more like You. Thank You for promising that if I draw near to You, You will draw near to me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
