Today’s Key Scripture

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.”

— Psalm 37:23-24

When my now-grown son, Joshua, was younger, I was taking a walk with him and he was trying to hold my hand.

“Oh, Daddy,” he finally exclaimed, “you’re hurting me!”

Relaxing my grip, I looked down at him and said, “Don’t try to hold my hand, Son. Let me hold yours. I don’t want you to fall.”

Jesus does that to His children too. He said, “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand” (John 10:29).

We are God’s children, and He keeps us from falling.

The psalmist David looked up to God and prayed, “Uphold my steps in Your paths, that my footsteps may not slip” (Psalm 17:5).

We won’t always get it right on our walk with God. There will be times in our life when we simply mess up, but our Lord is merciful and full of grace. He loves you and me so much that He promises to forgive, even when we are disobedient and stumble. In fact, He loves you so much that even when you stumble, after you repent, He is willing to wipe your slate clean.

Love Him. Trust Him. Walk with Him daily. Give the power to Him.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, I give all power to You. You know the thirst in me. I seek to do so much on my own, yet I know it is only through You than I can walk with You. I ask You to fill me daily with Your Holy Spirit. Your Word says whoever asks shall receive, so I humbly request that Your Holy Spirit’s mighty presence engulf me even now. I need You. I open my heart to You. Take control of my life, even as You quench my thirst. Let me dwell in Your sweet companionship every day of my life. I ask this in the most precious name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, amen.
