Today’s Key Scripture

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”

— James 1:5-6

Prayer has the power to give us wisdom and understanding. The Lord promised to give us wisdom that none of our enemies will be able to contradict or resist (Luke 21:15), but we must ask. Prayer imparts this depth of wisdom.

The Word of God commands:

Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly. (Proverbs 2:3-7)

Again, I emphasize that we must ask for wisdom—seeking it as for hidden treasures. Only persevering, persistent prayer brings wisdom.

That is my prayer for you, as Evangelist Dwight L. Moody once said, “A Christian on his knees will see more than a philosopher on his tip toes.”

A Prayer for Today

O Lord, keep me in the center of Your will so I don’t get in the way of everything You are doing in my life. I’m so grateful for the promise of Your wisdom. From early in the morning and throughout the day and night, may I seek Your insight continually. Teach me to trust You as I pray. Grant that I may increasingly live pleasing in your sight, seeking Your will, interceding for others, and giving all glory to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
