Today’s Key Scripture
“It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
— Acts 1:7-8
Prayer brings the power of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God declares that as the Lord Jesus was assembled with His disciples, He told them they would receive power from on high and be witnesses to the “end of the earth.”
The Scriptures then declare that the apostles and disciples continued in “prayer and supplication” (Acts 1:14), for they fully understood that only as they persevered in prayer would they receive the promise given to them by the Lord.
They remained together, still in prayer, then on the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended on them with great power, for “suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting” (Acts 2:2).
Their lives would never be the same. On that day alone, about 3,000 souls were added, many wonders and miracles took place, and a supernatural anointing swept over them.
Best of all, during the coming days “the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:47).
Persist in your prayers. God has a mighty work ahead for you!
A Prayer for Today
God of all mercy, forgiveness, and lovingkindness, I need You in every part of my life. I choose today to come to You, to seek intimacy with You, to confide in You as my Friend, and to persist in Your presence. I willingly share my heart, my desires, and even my pain with You. I seek You with everything that I am or ever hope to be. May I live my life so in tune with You, asking for Your guidance every day. Help me to walk in joy, reflecting Your love to others everywhere I go. Help me speak hope, health, and peace to whomever I meet. I pray all this in the name of Jesus, amen.
