Today’s Key Scripture

“I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple.”

— Psalm 27:4, CSB

A kindergarten teacher curiously asked a little boy in her class, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The young fellow squinted his eyes, thought for a moment, and begin rattling off a list of very wonderful goals: “I want to be a fireman, a policeman, a doctor, and…”

Many adults have the same problem. They shift from one thing to another, attempting and failing, never answering the question, “What one thing will I do with the rest of my life?”

I’ve never forgotten these words of advice I heard years ago: “Nothing becomes dynamic until it becomes specific.”

The Bible does not talk about dozens of visions for our future, only one. It’s not plural but singular. It’s His vision for our life.

How many things did David, the psalmist desire? Only one: “to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple.”

Paul declared, “This one thing I do” (Philippians 3:13). Once that one thing is understood, everything else begins to fall into place: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).

What vision does the Lord have just for you?

A Prayer for Today

Good Morning, Holy Spirit! I seek Your vision for my life. Help me to focus on what You are showing me to do. Help me to dwell in Your presence, to deal wisely in life, and live honorably in everything I do today. Guide me as I spend time in fellowship with You. Help me to listen more intently—to hear Your voice. Direct my paths as I spend more time in Your presence, in Your Word, and in prayer. Draw me closer to You today. Help me to want what You desire in my life. Help me to think and act in alignment with Your Word. I want more of You and less of me. I pray all this in the name above all names, Jesus, amen.
