Today’s Key Scripture
“I can do nothing on my own initiative or authority. Just as I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just (fair, righteous, unbiased), because I do not seek My own will, but only the will of Him who sent Me.”
— John 5:30, amp
I remember the day, early in my walk as a believer, when I knelt in prayer before the Father and said, “Lord, help me pray.” Instantly, I heard these words: I won’t! I won’t help you pray.
“Why?” I inquired of the Lord, and He gently whispered to me, I will help you as you pray.
You and I have an important part to play in touching the throne of God. Scripture tells us, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8).
For too long I have heard people make the excuse, “Well, I don’t have time to pray.” Yet they talk with their spouse, play with the kids, watch the news, spend time on social media, and take vacations. It’s vital to invest our time in things that are eternal. What could be more important than the moments you spend with your heavenly Father?
One man persisted, “I’m on the job 14 hours a day, and I have to work to live.”
“Sir,” I told him, “you have to pray to live too.”
Today, I encourage you to make a renewed personal covenant with God regarding your prayer life. It is the key to a divine relationship with your heavenly Father.
A Prayer for Today
Father, help me to pray! I praise You for all You have done—from Creation to Calvary, and from Pentecost to today. I’m so grateful to You for hearing my prayers and guiding my path, even when I had no idea where You were leading me. And I’m thankful to You for where You will take me today and tomorrow. I pray all these things with deep thanksgiving, in Jesus’ name, amen.
