Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted:

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

— John 15:5

We know that prayerlessness is disobedience. Our Lord Jesus told us that we “ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1).

Prayerlessness reveals our unwillingness to let God work in our life. It is through prayer that we give in to God’s will for our lives. When you have a consistent prayer life, you are constantly giving Him the opportunity to work in our life. It is only then that surrender takes place.

Christ was our example. Before going to the cross of Calvary, we are told: “And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down , and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing , remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke22:41-42, KJV). The flesh did not want to go to the cross, but our Lord Jesus surrendered to God’s will.

To neglect prayer means a refusal to follow Christ in surrender, but spending time with Him in prayer shows we are completely dependent upon Him, needing Him for all things, in all situations, at all times.

The true believer understands that apart from Him we can do nothing!

A Prayer for Today:

Father God, I need You in every facet of my life. I pray today that You will move boldly in my life. Help me yearn for Your presence more than I desire any distraction that would keep me from You. Help me grow in the fruit of the Spirit. Give me the revelation that leads me to walk closer with Yourself. I pray for guidance from your Spirit to know Your perfect will. Anoint me afresh, especially as I finish this year strongly and move into the new year. Pour Your anointing over me. Help me to avoid withholding any of myself from You. I pray this in the glorious Name of Jesus, Amen!
