Today’s Key Scripture

“To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

— Romans 8:6

Have you ever considered why the promise of the Holy Spirit’s infilling is so vital to our prayers and every area of our life as a believer? I was pondering this years ago, and this realization suddenly hit me: What would my life be like without the Holy Spirit? I quickly wrote a list of sobering thoughts. Here are the first three:

  1. It is impossible to know God without the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). Knowing God requires a daily anointing of the Holy Spirit.
  2. It is impossible to understand the kingdom of God without the Holy Spirit. Paul the apostle taught that the kingdom of God is “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17). Only the Holy Spirit’s fresh anointing can help us understand this spiritual dimension that is hidden from the world.
  3. It is impossible to know the truth without the Holy Spirit. Jesus talked about the Comforter who will “teach you all things” (John 14:26).

Spend time in His presence today, telling Him how much you appreciate and love His fellowship, help, comfort, and guidance.

And in tomorrow’s devotional, I will continue with this list of “impossibilities” we face without His daily anointing.

A Prayer for Today

Almighty and everlasting God, thank You for making the “impossible” possible in my life every day. Receive my prayers. Show me the light of Your guidance today. Help me to be spiritually minded in life and peace. I seek to follow You as my only hope. Teach me all things and freshly anoint me every day. I pray this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
