Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted):
When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the (burning) bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he (Moses) said, “Here I am.” Then He (God) said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.
—Exodus 3:4-6
When the Holy Spirit descends during my private devotional times or in my public ministry, I often think of Moses when he stood before the burning bush.
The Holy Spirit brings a sense of reverence and glory into the very atmosphere where He is. Scripture makes numerous references to His holiness that fills us with awe.
John the Baptist spoke of the awe of the baptism to come: “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” (Matthew 3:11).
Romans 1:4 also declares Him to be “the spirit of holiness,” in a passage referring to the Holy Spirit’s role in the resurrection of the Savior.
There are so many facets to the precious Holy Spirit. He carries a wealth of meaning and importance for every believer. Oh, that you and I can know Him better every day.
I encourage you to pray for a deeper understanding of His holiness, for the Holy Spirit’s nature enables Him to be with you wherever you are, whenever you need Him!
A Prayer for Today:
Dear Lord, I love You. Knowing You better every day is the desire of my heart. I confess that sometimes my actions and reactions reveal my true nature, yet I know that You are able to change and refine me from the inside out. Please forgive me when I fail you. Tank You for Your mercy and grace that helps me see that each new day as a fresh, clean, and flawless opportunity to walk closer with You. I pray this in Your Name, Amen!
