Today’s Key Scripture

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”

— Hebrews 10:22-23

Fanny Crosby (1820–1915), though blinded from infancy, wrote somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 Christian hymns and songs that have touched generations to this day. According to her own words, she never attempted to write a hymn without first kneeling in prayer.

Can you imagine the time praying over her legendary songwriting career?

It is said that in 1874, she went through a period when the words simply wouldn’t come. On this occasion, she went to prayer, not just for God to direct her writing, but for an immediate material need of five dollars. There was no time to contact her publishers, so she simply prayed that day. Soon afterward, an admirer came for a short visit and placed exactly five dollars in her hand.

Rising from a prayer of thanks, the blind writer began writing the words that continue to touch hearts today:

All the way my Savior leads me—what have I to ask beside?

Can I doubt His tender mercy, who through life has been my guide?

Heavenly peace, divinest comfort, here by faith in Him to dwell!

For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well;

For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.

A Prayer for Today

Father in heaven, You do all things well! I magnify Your name, because You never fail. Your Word promises that I can be confident that You’ve begun a good work in me and that You will complete it. I’m trusting You daily, Lord, knowing that what You have promised will come to pass. I seek Your will, Lord, not my will. I surrender all to You and am confident that You know best for every step I take. Be glorified today through my thoughts, words, and deeds. I pray this in Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
