Today’s Key Scripture

“I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.”

— Ezekiel 22:30

As with Abraham and Lot, we know if the Lord can find just one person who will seek His face and live righteously, the tide of events will turn.

In this passage from Ezekiel, God again didn’t seek an angel to help. He searched for a normal individual like you and me to fill the breach.

When He found no one, what was the outcome?

“Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord God. (Ezekiel 22:31)

It is sad but true that while God He doesn’t want to chastise nations and destroy faithless people, justice demands that sin be punished.

It’s not the Lord’s pleasure to destroy. He continues to ask if there is anyone who will step forward and hold back His wrath.

Prayer is not meant to overcome God’s reluctance. We can’t strong-arm the Lord and force Him to do something. Moses both prayed and reasoned with God not to destroy His people. When you come to God in prayer, pray that you will come into partnership with His will.

Today, find your quiet place and stand on the promises of God. Stand in the gap!

A Prayer for Today

Father, resurrect everything that is dead in me and cause me to be totally alive and vigilant for You. Teach me how to be the powerful spiritual warrior You have called me to be. Show me how I should pray and prepare. Help me to stand in the gap. Thank You that I don’t have to walk alone, but I can have confidence that You are with me moment by moment, day by day. And I especially thank You today for the eternal reward in heaven that makes my trials, spiritual warfare, and waiting worth everything. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
