Today’s Key Scripture

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

— John 4:24

It is futile to enter God’s presence while attempting to impress Him. He knows our heart and wants us to pour out our heart to Him, telling Him our deepest desires.

We must confess our need and our sin, for without confession, there can be no forgiveness: “When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer” (Psalm 32:3-4, KJV).

The psalmist also declared: “I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,’ and You forgave the iniquity of my sin” (Psalm 32:5).

David continued, “For this shall everyone that is godly pray unto You in a time when You may be found” (Psalm 32:6). Likewise, it is impossible to pour our heart out to the Lord without first confessing our sin, and once He cleanses us, there will be intimacy that words cannot express.

John Calvin (1509–1564) said, “If prayer is of no account to us, that is a sure sign that we are unbelievers, however much we claim to believe the gospel.”

A Prayer for Today

Dear Lord, I thank You for loving me, even when I was unworthy and unlovable. Thank You for listening to my prayers, even when I’ve been so underserving of Your answers to those prayers. Help me spend more and more time with You every day. Help me worship You in spirit and truth, for You alone are worthy, and in You I find purpose, meaning, and guidance. I pray this in the name above all names, Jesus, amen.
