Today’s Key Scripture

“Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.”

— Acts 12:5, KJV

The seventh glorious result of agreement is that it brings deliverance.

When Herod arrested and jailed Peter for preaching the Gospel, prayer warriors began joining together to intercede. God heard the great chorus of petitions and sent an angel to Peter: “And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands” (Acts 12:7, kjv).

It was agreement that brought release!

And that unity in prayer continued. What did Paul and Silas do when they were confined for the sake of the Gospel? They joined forces and fervently called on the Lord (Acts 16:25-26).

Because Paul experienced the power of agreement, he later asked Christians to pray for his deliverance, saying, “Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me, that I may be delivered” (Romans 15:30-31).

Today, there are people everywhere who are locked up in spiritual prisons. How can they experience freedom and liberty? Join together in prayer!

 

A Prayer for Today

Dear heavenly Father, I stand upon Your promises. I ask for great harmony to sweep through the body of Christ, that all tribes and tongues will one day acknowledge You as Savior and Lord. Too easily in the past we have allowed division based on culture, language, or race. Change us, Lord, and unite us. Let us come together in one accord over what we have in common rather than being fractured over how we differ. I pray this in Your name, Amen.
