Key Scripture

“‘Look!’ he answered, ‘I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.’”

— Daniel 3:25

I’m sure you know the reason the three Hebrew children were thrown into the blast furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to worship the golden image created by king Nebuchadnezzar. Instead, they prayed together to the one true God.

When these men were hurled into the flame, a mighty miracle occurred. The king was astonished to see the men walking around inside the fire. He was even more awestruck to see a fourth figure.

Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire to an even more astounding realization:

The satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them. (Daniel 3:27)

United in faith and belief, they walked out of that furnace unharmed. Beyond that, the testimony of their miracle impacted the entire nation of Babylon:

Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him…there is no other God who can deliver like this.” (Daniel 3:28-29)

The agreement brings the miraculous, even in the midst of the fire.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, help me stand on Your promises, both today and in the future. Grant that I may see Your hand at work in my life, especially as I join with others of faith. You are my perfect example of how I should live my life, stand in faith, and live in unity, regardless of the circumstances around me. Give me the strength, wisdom, and perseverance to follow in Your footsteps. I boldly choose to live in You and for You alone, Lord. I pray this in the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, amen.
