Today’s Key

“God lays up one’s iniquity for his children; let Him recompense him, that he may know it.”

— Job 21:19

Job 21 tells about the frightening picture for the prayerless and the ungodly. Verse 19 points out that the prayerless will see pain and suffering as a reward. Prayerlessness is a dangerous and destructive practice. Neglecting God is the cause for much pain and suffering in our world.

As we continue reading, “Let his eyes see his destruction, and let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty” (verse 20). The misery of prayerlessness is clearly described. How much better it is to say, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help” (Psalm 121:1).

Job 21:21 gives us a frightening picture of the end of life for the prayerless. It’s says, “What does he care about his household after him, when the number of his months is cut in half?”

How much better it is to acknowledge God and know His promise: “With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation” (Psalm 91:16).

Only those who seek the Lord are guaranteed this promise: “He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him” (Psalm 91:15).

God’s promise of long life is the result of prayer.

A Prayer for Today

Good morning, Holy Spirit! I give You thanks for waking me up in anticipation of spending time with You. What a wonderful way to start this day! I am so blessed to be with You every day, knowing that the more time I spend in Your presence, the more I will be spiritually transformed into Your image. Today, I choose to be filled with thanksgiving, knowing that whatever happened before is in the past. I thank You for a clean slate this morning, and I ask You to help me fill this day with Your will being done in my life. In Jesus’ holy, blessed name I pray, with gratefulness, amen.
