Today’s Key Scripture

“The sorrows God distributes in His anger.”

— Job 21:17

What are the consequences of prayerlessness? The list grows.

The last part of Job 21:17 tells us that a life without prayer tells us of a life of sorrow and an absence of true joy. Gladness is far from the unrighteous. There is no contentment, all because the prayerless refuse to seek the Lord.

In addition, the first part of verse 18 tells us that the prayerless have no preservation: “They are like straw before the wind.”

Straw and stubble are what are left of the grain stalk and roots when the crop is harvested. Those who do not pray are not preserved. Only as we pray do we become useful and are preserved. This is an awesome truth that the Word of God gives us—only through prayer are we secure. Only through prayer are we established. That is the reason why so many individuals are cast about by different doctrines.

The apostle Paul wrote, “We should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting” (Ephesians 4:14).

Only prayer reveals the Word of God that will establish you for day-to-day living.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, I seek to be established in You. I praise You for allowing me to enter Your presence every day. I praise You for fighting my battles. I magnify You for protecting me from the storms of life and staying with me in my trials. I acknowledge Your greatness, for only You are worthy of my praise. I long to serve You today. I want to reflect Your goodness to others, even as I lift up high praise to You. And I pray all these things in Jesus’ name, amen.
