Today’s Key Scripture

“They say to God, ‘Depart from us, for we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways.’”

— Job 21:14

The consequences of prayerlessness are disastrous and frightening.

By avoiding prayer and the knowledge of God and His ways, people are saying, “Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him? And what profit do we have if we pray to Him?” (Job 21:15).

Instead of seeking God for who He is and how He wants to bless in and through them, they are simply looking out for themselves. They think they can use Him or get something out of Him, and only then do they call on Him.

But the Word of God clearly tells us that this is not true prayer. True prayer is seeking God for who He is, not what He can do for an individual.

What are the results of prayerlessness? One of the strongest rebukes is this: “Indeed their prosperity is not in their hand” (verse 16). The prayerless will never know true goodness or prosperity. No good will come to them—only evil.

Thank God for prayer. Thank God for forgiveness. Thank God for a better way!

A Prayer for Today

Father God, I desire deep communion with You. I never want to be guilty of the sin of prayerlessness. I want to be used to touch others, but I increasingly realize that I must first invite You into every part of my life every day so You can permeate my thoughts, intents, and plans. I long for Your anointing. I seek Your revelation and intimate fellowship. Help me follow You as a willing vessel of honor for You. I pray this in the name of Jesus, the name that is above all names, amen.
