Today’s Key Scripture
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
— Matthew 7:7-8
Sometimes people try to make prayer something that it isn’t. There is a tendency to be ritualistic, formalistic, and sometimes even fatalistic. I can’t count the times that people have said, “It feels as if my prayers are bouncing off the ceiling,” or “It seems like the heavens are brass.”
Prayer, at its very core, is simply spending time with God. It involves entering His presence with thanksgiving. It means fellowshipping with Him, listening to Him, and ultimately asking, seeking, and knocking.
When we spend time with Him, focusing on His will for our life, then God will act on our requests. Ask. Then seek. Then keep knocking until the door is opened. A knocking prayer keeps knocking until the impossible becomes possible.
All things are possible when we ask, seek, and knock. God wants us to grow in Him. Through prayer, we grow both spiritually and emotionally. We mature in faith.
By asking God for help, we are revealing our growing reliance upon Him. By seeking, we are learning more about God’s will. And by knocking, we begin to see miracles happen.
Don’t be afraid to ask, seek, and knock. Jesus Christ Himself taught us to do it this way.
A Prayer for Today
Righteous God, I want to be used in Your service to reach others. Keep me holy and true, even as You are holy and true. I ask for Your protection, strength, and wisdom to know how to reach the lost and needy all around me. I ask for Your will to be done in my life. I thank You for every door that You are opening, just as I ask for understanding at any door that You close supernaturally. I surrender myself to You, even as I desire to become closer and more intimate with You every day. I pray all these things in Jesus’ name, the name above all names, amen.
