Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted:

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

—John 4:24

It is futile to enter God’s presence while attempting to impress Him. He knows your heart and wants you to pour out your heart to Him, telling Him your deepest desires.

You must confess your need and your sin, for without confession, there can be no forgiveness: “When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer” (Psalm 32:3-4, KJV).

The psalmist also declared: “I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin” (Psalm 32:5, KJV).

David continues: “For this shall every one that is godly pray unto You in a time when You may be found” (Psalm 32:6). Likewise, it is impossible to pour your heart out to the Lord without first confessing your sin, and once He cleanses you, there will be intimacy that words cannot express.

Said John Calvin (1509-1564), “If prayer is of no account to us, that is a sure sign that we are unbelievers, however much we claim to believe the gospel.”

A Prayer for Today:

Dear Lord, I thank You for loving me, even when I was unworthy and unlovable. Thank You for listening to my prayers, even when I’ve been so underserving of Your answers to those prayers. Help me to spend more and more time with You during the coming days. Help me to worship You in spirit and truth, for You alone are worthy, and in You I find purpose, meaning, and guidance. I pray this in the Name above all names, Amen!
