Today’s Key Scripture

“Keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it—lest you even be found to fight against God.”

— Acts 5:38-39

Peter had a new Friend and Companion who may have been invisible to others but was a reality to him. He told the Sanhedrin, the supreme Jewish court, “We are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him” (Acts 5:32).

The disciples did not say, “We are His witnesses and so is Mary Magdalene” or, “So are the soldiers who were there.” The Holy Spirit was real to them, and the evidence of His presence in their lives was there for all to see: “God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will” (Hebrews 2:4).

They were actually seeing part of the power that Jesus had promised to them before He ascended into heaven (see Acts 1:8). The change in the apostles was so dramatic that the religious leaders who listened “were furious and plotted to kill them” (Acts 5:33). Something had changed, and there was no going back.

How wonderful it is to have the Holy Spirit as your Friend and Companion and to experience His reality each and every moment, regardless of the cost!

A Prayer for Today

Thank You, Father God, for being my Friend and Companion. I seek to live in Your light and truth, no matter where Your path leads. I praise You, Lord Jesus, for using me to bless others. I ask that You shield me from the Evil One and the emptiness of this world. Instead, I release to You every concern, need, and challenge, and I trust You to direct my paths, both today and in the future. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
