Today’s Key Scripture

“Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar.”

—Acts 11:28

At times the Holy Spirit will reveal the future in preparation for trials and struggles coming our way. We find one instance of that in Acts 11:28.

As a result, “Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea. This they also did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul” (verses 29-30).

When this kind of revelation occurs, there is no natural explanation for it, no more than when Joseph received the interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream of the cattle and corn that foretold seven great years and seven lean years. Joseph clearly explained the Source of the interpretation: “It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace” (Genesis 41:16).

As with Pharaoh and Agabus, there often comes an inner knowing. Through prayer and listening to God’s voice, tragedy can often be averted and you can be prepared for whatever lies ahead.

I challenge you today to commit to a deeper, more intimate prayer life than you’ve ever known. You may be surprised how God changes your outlook, even as He changes your future.

A Prayer for Today

O Lord God, my heavenly Father, I need Your outlook in my life. I commit myself to a deeper, more intimate walk with You. Help me walk in righteousness, peace, and joy, reflecting Your love to others. Help me speak hope, health, and peace wherever I go. The victory is already won, and all the glory goes to You. I pray this in the name of the Author and Finisher of my faith, Jesus, amen.
