Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted:
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.”
— Genesis 17:1-2
Abraham entered into an eternal agreement with God. This vow was made through prayer: “And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him saying , As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations” (Genesis 17:3-4).
As a result, Abraham’s life was drastically transformed, especially in so many ways:
- Abraham became a new person. The Lord even changed his name. God said, “Neither shall thy name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee” (Genesis 17:5).
- God and Abraham became eternally committed to each other (Genesis 17:7).
- He began a life of prayer and intercession. Abraham sought the Lord on behalf of his own children and God answered, “I have heard thee” (Genesis 17:20).
- God became Abraham’s friend. The Lord and Abraham became one. “Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God” (James 2:23).
This covenant not only gave birth to prayer, but to revelation. Not only did God reveal what was about to take place, He also allowed Abraham to intercede in the court of heaven!
And today, because of the our Lord’s sacrifice on the cross of Calvary, we have a New Covenant!
A Prayer for Today:
Father, I desire to live in a covenant relationship with You. Teach me how to be the victorious spiritual warrior You have called me to be. Show me how I should pray and prepare. Help me to stand in the gap. Thank You that I don’t have to walk alone, but I can have confidence that You are with me moment by moment, day by day. And I especially thank You today for the eternal reward in heaven that makes all the trials, spiritual warfare, and waiting worth everything. That will be the ultimate victory! I pray all this in Your Name, Amen!
