“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
— Micah 6:8

There are moments when we make following God more complicated than it needs to be.

We want to know the entire plan.

We want to understand every assignment.

We want God to tell us what is coming next, how everything is going to work out, and where the road is eventually going to take us.

But Micah brings us back to something simple:

Walk humbly with your God.

Notice what Scripture does not say.

It does not say, run ahead of God.

It does not say, figure everything out before you move.

It does not say, walk where everybody else is walking.

It says:

Walk with God.

And that changes everything.

Walking With God Means Staying Close

When you walk with someone, there is relationship.

There is conversation.

There is nearness.

There is awareness of where the other person is going.

That is what God wants from us.

Not merely religious activity.

Not simply knowing things about Him.

He wants us to walk with Him.

Day by day.

Step by step.

There will be times when He leads quickly.

There will be seasons when He seems to slow the pace.

There will be moments when He changes direction.

And humility says:

“Lord, wherever You lead, I will follow.”

Humility Doesn’t Mean Thinking Less of Yourself

Biblical humility is not walking around believing you have no value.

Humility is understanding that God is God and we are not.

It is recognizing that we need Him.

It is being willing to say:

“I don’t know everything.”

“I need wisdom.”

“I need grace.”

“I may have been wrong.”

“Lord, teach me.”

Pride wants to lead.

Humility is willing to follow.

Pride says, “I know where I’m going.”

Humility says, “Lord, direct my steps.”

There is freedom in that.

You do not have to carry the pressure of knowing everything when you are walking with the One who does.

Sometimes God Changes the Road

There are times when we become attached to the path we thought God would use.

We had a plan.

We saw the future a certain way.

Then something changed.

A door closed.

A relationship changed.

An opportunity disappeared.

The road took a turn we did not expect.

And sometimes our first reaction is:

Lord, what happened?

But walking humbly means trusting that God sees farther down the road than we do.

There are doors He closes because He is protecting us.

There are delays He allows because He is preparing us.

There are roads He redirects because He knows where they lead.

You may not understand every turn.

But you can trust the One walking beside you.

Do Justly. Love Mercy. Walk Humbly.

Micah connects our walk with the way we treat people.

Do justly.

Do what is right even when it costs you.

Love mercy.

Not merely receive mercy.

Love it.

Be willing to extend to others the same grace God has extended to you.

Then:

Walk humbly with thy God.

Our relationship with God should change the way we walk through this world.

The closer we walk with Him, the more His heart should become visible in us.

More compassion.

More patience.

More mercy.

Less pride.

Less need to prove ourselves.

Less need to have the last word.

Because when you know Who is walking beside you, you don’t have to spend your life proving who you are.

Keep Pace With Him

Sometimes we run ahead of God because we are impatient.

Other times we fall behind because fear keeps us from moving.

But there is a place where God wants us:

Beside Him.

Walking.

Listening.

Following.

Trusting.

Maybe today you do not need to know what the next five years look like.

Maybe you simply need to ask:

“Lord, what does walking with You look like today?”

Who do I need to forgive?

Where do I need to show mercy?

What attitude needs to change?

What step of obedience have I been avoiding?

What are You asking me to surrender?

And then take that step.

You do not have to see the whole road.

Just stay close to the One who does.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to walk humbly with You. Keep me from running ahead of Your will or allowing fear to make me fall behind. Give me wisdom to do what is right, a heart that loves mercy, and the humility to follow wherever You lead. When I do not understand the road, help me trust Your hand. Keep me close to You, and let every step of my life reflect Your character. In Jesus’ name, amen.
