Today’s Key Scripture (all references NKJV unless otherwise noted)

And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.

——Matthew 14:23

When we pray, we must come to the right place. Moses, like Jesus, understood this, for we read:

And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation… And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses… And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. (Exodus 33:7, 9, 11, KJV)

Moses knew where to meet God! That is why his prayers were effective.

The Lord said in Matthew 6:6, “enter into thy closet.” This doesn’t necessarily mean a physical closet or specific address, for you and I can experience that solitude and oneness with the Lord even in the midst of a crowd. Yet it is good to separate from the distractions of the world in order to come into God’s presence.

Moses entered into the Tabernacle (Exodus 33:7), away from the multitudes. Likewise, our Lord Jesus often separated Himself from the crowds, for He understood that the right location is often necessary for effective prayer!

A Prayer for Today:

Heavenly Father, I humbly come before You with a grateful heart. I praise You, knowing that everything good and perfect comes from You. I’m thankful that You meet me wherever I am—all alone or in a crowd—yet I ask You to help me get away from the distractions of life so I may focus on You. You alone are worthy of my praise and thanksgiving. Amen.
