Today’s Key Scripture

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

— Philippians 4:6-7

When we pray with faith, even when it is mustard-seed size, God is available to help in every area of life.

We tend to put limits on prayer, but we are told to “let your requests be made known to God.” He is concerned about everything.

If you need an example of prayer, read Matthew 6:9-13, which I shared in a previous month of Good Morning, Holy Spirit, Daily Devotionals. These verses are known as the Lord’s Prayer or the Model Prayer. It’s a good passage to memorize, as long as you don’t repeat it mindlessly. See it as an example of the varied things that should go into prayer.

God’s answers are available to us, just as they were for believers who have preceded us. In fact, a study of the Word of God shows that the power of prayer and intimacy with God helps overcome enemies (Psalm 6:9-10), defeats evil forces (Mark 9:29), brings healing (James 5:14-15), conquers death (2 Kings 4:3-36), provides direction (Proverbs 3:6), brings wisdom (James 1:5), and often is answered even before we call upon Him (Isaiah 65:24).

Praise be to the Lord that the power of prayer rests not on human frailty, but on an infinitely powerful God who created the universe. And it is available to you.

A Prayer for Today

My heavenly Father, thank You for being my ever-present help in times of trouble. I choose to press in close to You today, to keep You first and foremost in my heart, and to lean upon You for guidance and direction today and forever. Over and over, I’ve seen Your faithfulness, just as You promised in Your Word. You are faithful, always providing a way so I can endure and succeed. Give me the strength to overcome everything that stands against me today. Nurture and guide me through Your unfailing love. I look forward today to all You have in store for me, and I pray all this in the name above all names, Jesus, amen.
