Today’s Key Scripture

“I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.”

— Ezekiel 22:30

  1. A. Torrey, the great American Bible teacher, said, “Prayer moves the hand that moves the world.” Richard Trench, a powerful English preacher, once wrote, “Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance, but laying hold of His highest willingness.”

If the Lord can find just one person who will seek His face, the tide of events can be turned. However, when no one steps forward, terrible things can happen.

He told the prophet, Ezekiel, “I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30). And because He found no one who would pray and intercede, the Lord said, “Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath, and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads” (verse 31).

It is not the Lord’s will to destroy. He is a God of mercy and forgiveness to those who call upon Him in repentance.

Today, He continues to ask, “Is there anyone who will step forward and stand in the gap?”

Will you?

A Prayer for Today

Father God, thank You for providing salvation through Your Son, even when I was lost in sin and deserving of Your judgment. Thank You for loving me, even when I was unlovable. My heart is eternally grateful. Please guide me in Your path of righteousness, according to Your will and Your glory. And help me stand in the gap for others who need You so desperately, even though they may not comprehend their need for You. Help me become more like You, bringing light and hope to a world too often filled with darkness and hopelessness. I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
