Today’s Key Scripture

“By faith, Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

— Hebrews 11:8-10

We know that Abraham was a man of prayer. He spent time in fellowship with God. He listened. He obeyed. These things, in a historical sense, are nothing short of remarkable. What is even more significant is that Abraham was a man of extreme faith.

Imagine! He was 75 years old when God told him to leave his homeland and go to a country that He would show him. Certainly, there was no easy way to transport all the people, possessions, and livestock. More to the point, Abraham didn’t know the destination or even the direction. Yet he listened and obeyed when God spoke:

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing. (Genesis 12:1-2, KJV)

Abraham didn’t question God. Instead, he started out obediently with his wife, Sara (later named Sarah), his nephew Lot, and all their earthly possessions. By faith!

Prayer is powerful, but faith often requires that we put legs to those prayers!

A Prayer for Today

Good morning, Holy Spirit! Help me spend time in fellowship with You. Help me listen more intently. Help me obey with my whole heart. Draw me closer to You today. Help me want what You desire in my life. Help me think and act in alignment with Your Word. Help me dwell in Your presence, deal wisely in life, and live honorably in everything I do today. I want more of You and less of me, so I ask that You reveal any areas in me that need correction and change. I pray all this in the name above all names, Jesus, amen.
