Key Scripture

“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

— Matthew 26:41

The agreement brings escape from temptation!

Throughout His life and ministry, Jesus retreated from the crowds to find a place alone to pray. However, at Gethsemane, as He faced His most trying hour, the Lord needed someone to pray with Him.

Sadly, when Jesus found the disciples, they were sleeping, not fully aware of what Christ was going through in the garden.

He turned to Peter, saying, “Could you not watch with Me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40). Jesus then spoke to Peter, admonishing him to watch and pray to escape from temptation.

Here is the important message of these words: When you agree with the Lord in prayer, He will keep you from temptation. Unity with the Father provides a way of escape.

During moments when the tensions of life are upon you and you feel the pressure of temptation, turn to someone who is filled with the Holy Spirit, a person who will pray with you that God will set you free.

There is extreme power in united prayer. This principle is found throughout the Bible. And if the Son of God needed prayer partners, how much more do we?

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, I pray for unity in the body of Christ. I ask You to direct me to others with whom I can live and act in one accord. I pray for Your mercy and grace, not just for my loved ones and me, but for all those around me. I ask that precious souls who are without You as Savior and Lord will hear Your voice through fellow believers and me. May the unbelievers turn to you as You seek to save those who need You most. Help me to persevere in prayer as I walk in Your path with certainty, purity, and agreement. Grant that I will be a living witness for You. And may I rest upon Your promises, day by day, to be unafraid to move boldly in Your light, even as I proclaim salvation through You. I pray all this in the name of Jesus, amen.
