The Joshua Generation, Part 1

“God wants us to move into a new walk with Him. This is a mighty hour for every believer who steps out in faith. Today and tomorrow, the Joshua Generation will see the Holy Spirit move.”

God has always looked for people who will step out in faith for Him! The Old Testament contains stories of some of the greatest heroes of the faith, and there is much we can learn from them. Joshua, who came out of Egypt as a young child, is one of them.

As great as Moses was in leading the children of Israel out of Egypt, he never entered the Promised Land alive. Joshua and his generation did.

What was the difference? And what can we learn from this powerful legacy?

The story of Joshua and God’s call on his life provides us with a pattern for victorious, supernatural living even today.

I would add, “God’s timing means everything!” And in the spiritual realm, timing is crucial. God’s perfect will for you and me is directly related to His perfect timing!

In this teaching I want to share with you how the Joshua Generation fulfilled God’s purposes and entered the Promised Land, but first, we must understand the workings of God with previous generations:

  • In Genesis, God chose His people.
  • In Exodus, God redeemed His people.
  • In Leviticus, God called people to lead His people.
  • In Numbers, God spoke to His people.
  • In Deuteronomy, God commanded His people.
  • In Joshua, God conquers through His followers.

God’s Commission to Joshua

The transition of leadership from Moses to Joshua was marked by this powerful scene:

Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is across from Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, the South, and the plain of the Valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.” So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 34:1-5 NKJV)

Joshua, had already been anointed as the next leader:

After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.” (Joshua 1:1-3)

The first words God spoke to Joshua was, “Now therefore, arise…”

This is the word God is speaking to each of us today. He has chosen us, redeemed us, given us leadership, spoken to us, commanded and commissioned us, and now He is saying “Arise!” He cannot conquer unless we obey Him and arise!

Who was this Joshua Generation?

  • They were the sons and daughters of the Israelites who lived in slavery in Egypt.
  • Joshua’s generation consisted of the children that doubtlessly did not remember Egypt and the hard times as the previous generation.
  • Their relationship with God was more directly linked to their deliverance at the Red Sea. They remembered the Red Sea dividing. They recalled the enemy’s defeat.
  • They remembered the glorious cloud and the pillar of fire they met as they crossed over to dry land. For 40 long years, all they saw every morning was a cloud. All they saw every night was fire.
  • They remembered the miracle of water suddenly coming out of a rock when they were thirsty in the wilderness. They were given manna from heaven.
  • Their clothes and shoes did not wear out during the entire time in the wilderness (Deuteronomy 29:5).
  • They saw the enemy bow before them (Deuteronomy 9:3).
  • They remembered the words that were spoken to them through Moses.
  • They recalled the glory of God they had seen.
  • They saw the fate of their forefathers who disobeyed the Lord.
  • They saw the building of the Tabernacle and knew that God’s presence filled the Holy of Holies.

Along the way, those who had lived much of their lives in Egypt began dying off. The children of Israel who did not remember the bondage of Egypt but remembered the miracles God had performed, were the ones God commissioned to conquer and occupy the Promised Land!

Moses led a people who had to see miracles to obey, but Joshua led a people who obeyed and saw miracles.

Joshua wasn’t told to go back to Egypt. No! He was told to move forward where His generation had never gone as an entire people before.

He was led onto Jordan, the place where Elijah had been caught up into heaven, where Elisha received the double portion. It’s the place where the supernatural happened!

The Joshua Generation Today

The Joshua Generation was different from the Moses Generation. They were ready to move into the Promised Land. They were ready to fight for the victories and to occupy the land God had prepared for them.

I truly believe that today’s generation will be as different from the past generation as Joshua’s was from the one led by Moses.

God has laid this message on my heart for believers today. Get ready for explosive things to come that have never been witnessed.

My Request to You

It is your time for fullness and abundance!

I believe that 2019 can be your best season ever in every area of your life.

And as in every other area, it is important to be led by God in your finances, knowing that the size of your harvest depends directly upon the size of your seed:

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. (2 Corinthians 9:6 KJV)

It’s time to sow seed! It’s time to obey the command of the Lord:

Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. (Proverbs 3:9-10)

God will not move or multiply until you give Him something to use. So prayerfully seek His guidance, take a step of faith with your finances, and then expect a supernatural harvest of abundance in your life and business:

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. (Luke 6:38 KJV)

Sow your most generous financial seed so multitudes can hear and receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ through miracle services, the Internet, This Is Your Day broadcasts, and mission outreaches. As you do, remember our Father’s glorious promise to give you seed and multiply that seed as you sow it.

For the glorious and eternal cause of our precious Lord Jesus Christ,
